Weekend Meal Sharing and Activities for OKIB Evacuees

Way Members,

Here’s a quick look at some of the activities, gathering spaces and meals available to evacuees in the Westbank and Vernon areas, with heartfelt thanks to all the community members, organizers, and local partners who are helping make these gatherings possible and supporting people through this time.

Meal Sharing:

Splatsin Community Centre
Saturday, August 8th 3:00pm

OKIB member evacuees and members of other Nations are invited to come together for a traditional meal featuring home-cooked food, including salmon, buffalo and other wild meats, corn on the cob, moose bone broth soup and fry bread.

Members are welcome to help prepare the meal or bring a dish from home. Following the meal, there may be time for drumming, dancing and stick games.
Please be aware that there will be no shuttle service provided for transportation to this event.

Prestige Hotel Vernon
Saturday, August 8th 5:00pm

OKIB will be hosting a dinner at the Prestige Hotel for Members who would like to gather and eat together. The caterers are preparing a delicious meal to be served at 5pm.
PLEASE NOTE: The dinner this evening will be held in a different ballroom due to another private function. Signs will be posted for guidance.


Activities:

Westbank

WFN Youth Centre Ages 12–18 | Saturday Drop-In Hours 2:00-7:00pm
A safe, welcoming drop-in space with games, computers and internet, pool table, air hockey, theatre/movie room and space to socialize.
Youth under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

WFN Pavilion Sunday, August 9th 12:00–3:00pm
Indigenous Family Day
Hosted by the Early Years Table, many fun activities and full use of the recreational facilities.

Vernon

Rock Garden – Free Drop-In for Evacuees

Sunday: 12:00–7:00pm

A quick reminder for the weekend:

Seaton Secondary Donation Centre
Please check with Volunteers if you wish to drop off items, as they are limiting what they can receive at this time. Members are encouraged to drop in and grab what they need.
Saturday: 12:00 –8:00pm
Sunday: 12:00 –5:00pm

Hotel Shuttle Service
Shuttle service will be limited this weekend to members needing to run local errands.
Saturday: 12:00-4:00pm
To arrange a ride, please contact Samantha at 250-306-5212.
There will be no shuttle service on Sunday.
