Community Update: Bradley Creek Wildfire (K41351)

Emergency crews continue making progress on the Bradley Creek Wildfire, but significant work remains before it is safe for residents to return home.

• All Evacuation Orders remain in effect.

• Westside Road remains closed to non-emergency traffic.

• A Do Not Consume Water Advisory remains in effect for affected community water systems.

Hotter weather and the potential for 20km winds from the south are forecasted over the coming days and Fire crews have taken precautionary measures to mitigate a potential increase in fire behaviour.

Yesterday, BC Wildfire crews successfully executed small-scale hand ignitions on the southwest flank to tie the fire perimeter into machine guards. Crews continue to build machine and hand guards while mop up operations on hot spots are underway. While temperatures remain hot, smoke from the wildfire is successfully hindering the fire intensity today with fire behaviour observed at rank 1 and 2.

Drone assisted heat signature mapping, and structural protection actions will continue to maintaining 24 hour operations, allowing on the ground allow structural protection crews to mitigate hotspots near neighborhoods and structures.

BC Hydro is actively supporting response and working closely with BCWS, clearing downed lines and infrastructure impacts to support crews in accessing more areas of the fire to safely continue suppression efforts.

In addition to suppression efforts, danger tree mitigation and Rapid Damage Assessment of structures continues to take place.

As a reminder, unauthorized personnel including Watercraft and aerial vehicles are asked to stay clear of the area and allow Wildfire crews and aerial vehicles to perform operations.
