Community Update: Resiliency Center – Transitioning from Response into Recovery

As OKIB transitions from response to recovery, ESS supports will be winding down while Recovery supports arrive. The Okanagan Indian Band Emergency Operations Centre will be setting up a Community Resiliency Centre to help support and guide residents on the next steps towards recovery.

The OKIB Community Resiliency Center will be open to OKIB members and non-member residents.

Non Member Residents

Please note the resiliency center will not have information on impacts to residents’ home. The center is available to provide information on potential support to address your needs. Please contact your landlord or property manager for information about your property.

What is a Community Resiliency Centre?

A community Resiliency Centre is a collection of services available to community who has been directly impacted by the fire and may require longer term recovery support.

These centres aid in the transition from response to recovery, offering support and information from government and non-government agencies such as: 

  • Ministry services 
  • Service BC 
  • Work BC 
  • First Nations Health Authority
  • Indigenous Services Canada
  • Nexus BC
  • United Way

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still use ESS Support?

-Yes, residents who remain on Evacuation Order or who’s homes were impacted directly by the Bradley Creek Wildfire, ESS services are available.

What do I do next?

-Once initial abatement work has been completed, you will be able to visit, assess and re-enter your property if able. If you have insurance, you can contact your provider to get an insurance adjustor out to assess damages. If you do not have insurance, please contact services at the Resiliency Centre to determine what supports may be available.

Non-member residents:
If you are a renter or non OKIB member, you should contact your landlord or property manager for next steps.
Permission may be required before inviting, insurance, contractors or non-government agencies.

What supports area available?

Replacement of lost or destroyed documents and IDs

Interior Health and First Nations Health Authority may offer Mental Health and Wellness supports

Non-Government agencies (NGOs) may offer services such as clean up and ash shifting services for residents without insurance.

*Services and supports may differ between OKIB members and non member residents.
