Community Update: Bradley Creek Fire Response

Way’ Members,

The Okanagan Indian Band Emergency Operations Centre (OKIB EOC) continues to work towards re-opening further areas of the reserve (IR 1). At this time significant work remains for the fire affected area.

In addition to fire crews, danger tree assessment and removal work will be taking place over the coming days. Previously an initial assessment was completed around essential infrastructure. Today work begins for more fulsome danger tree mitigation coverage.

OKIB and BC Wildfire crews will continue today mopping up hotspots within the fire area. Residents should continue to be advised that although Bradley Creek Wildfire is in ‘being held’ status, it is still an active fire and spot fires may become more visible as smoke continues to clear in the north Okanagan.

K51402 Quilpituk Fire status change to ‘Being Held’

As of 9am this morning, BC Wildfire and the Central Okanagan Regional District (CORD) have announced that the K51402 Quilpituk Creek Wildfire status has changed to ‘Being Held’

This change in fire status will have effects on Evacuation Alerts and Orders along Westside Road.

Please be advised that While Evacuation Orders and Alerts will be changing in the coming days to the South of OKIB, Westside Road will remain closed for access to the north.

Residents re-entering Killiney, Fintry, Westshore and other areas south of OKIB will have to access their properties from the Westbank side of Westside Road.

Mitigation and repair work needs to take place along Westside Road prior to a safe reopening through OKIB IR 1.

BC Hydro continues their work on the North end of westside Road today. Crews are working on re-energizing the main line along Westside Road and repairing service poles over the coming days. BC Hydro Environmental remediation teams will be removing damaged and burned hydro equipment along roads and property over the weekend.

Significantly fire damaged areas will remain on Evacuation Order for a longer duration to allow for mitigation and remediation work to be completed and work continues toward that goal daily.

OKIB Will post notice of changes to Orders and Alerts on our official platforms when changes occur, Additional Evacuation Order Rescinds may be possible over the coming days as work continues and conditions approve.
