Community Update: Evacuation Order

The Okanagan Indian Band Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), has issued an Evacuation Order for all properties north of Mary Emerald Bay Road to Simila Road due to the Bradley Creek Wildland Fire (K41351).

YOU MUST LEAVE THE AREA IMMEDIATELY

A tactical evacuation is underway for residents Pebble Park Lane.

Residents and visitors within the Evacuation Order area must leave immediately. This order has been issued to protect public safety as fire conditions continue to evolve.

Emergency personnel are working directly with affected residents to support the evacuation.

More information, including a map of the Evacuation Order area and additional instructions, will be released shortly.

Please avoid the area and allow firefighters and emergency personnel the space they need to safely respond to this incident.

Two Emergency Support Service (ESS) Centres have been set up to assist people displaced due to the Bradley Creek Wildland Fire (K41351).

People north of Newport should make there way to Head of the Lake Hall. Emergency Support Services (ESS) has been established at the 118 Head of the Lake Hall, to provide assistance to evacuees.

Traffic south of Newport, should make their way to Westbank Lions Club. Emergency Support Services (ESS) has been established at 2466 Mainstreet, West Kelowna.

If the road appears to be unsafe, please turn around and return the way you came.

The fire is currently display Rank 2 fire behaviour meaning a low vigour surface fire characterized by a surface fire with visible flame and unorganized flame front. You can read more about fire ranks here. Wildfire rank – Province of British Columbia

Crews are focusing efforts on the north/northeast and south and southwest areas of the fire. They are working off of existing roads to establish guard and extending hoselay for water delivery to support direct attack and water delivery to the fire’s edge. Helicopters are also providing bucketing support to help slow fire growth up slope and cool down hotspots.

Airtankers and skimmers are currently actioning this fire.

Community members and visitors are asked to avoid the area and give arial support the space they need to collect water safely and efficiently. This allows emergency personnel the space to carry out their work safely.

The Bradley Creek Wildland Fire (K41351) Is currently listed at 200 hectares.

Fire growth and size for this incident is predominately attributed to the grassy fuel type which burns fast and makes for a quicker rate of spread.

BCWS is assisting the Okanagan Indian Band Fire Department with this incident.

Crews are focusing efforts on the north/northeast and south and southwest areas of the fire. They are working off of existing roads to establish guard and extending hoselay for water delivery to support direct attack and water delivery to the fire’s edge. Helicopters are also providing bucketing support to help slow fire growth up slope and cool down hotspots.

OKIB Fire Department and BC Wildfire Service crews continue to work on creating a perimeter around the Bradley Creek fire (K41351), which is now listed 10 hectares.

At this time, no homes or other structures are threatened.
