Community Update: Reconsideration Hearing Concluded

The reconsideration hearing regarding the Unwelcome Person Order issued under the Okanagan Indian Band Unwelcome Persons and Trespass By-law concluded July 29, 2026. The hearing was conducted in accordance with the reconsideration process established under the by-law, which provides individuals subject to an Unwelcome Person Order the opportunity to have the decision reviewed by Chief and Council.

Pursuant to the Okanagan Indian Band Unwelcome Persons and Trespass By-law, Chief and Council, having reviewed the evidence at the Hearing from disputant (Hugh “Sonny” Patrick Tweed Jr.) and the Community Safety Officer, have made an Order. As a result, the Order required the disputant to vacate the reserve lands within 48 hours. A copy of the notice and BCR can be found on the OKIB website: Policies & Bylaws – Okanagan Indian Band

The Unwelcome Persons and Trespass By-law is intended to help protect the safety, peace, and well-being of Members, residents, staff, and visitors on Okanagan Indian Band lands while ensuring those affected by an Order have access to a fair reconsideration process.

Chief and Council thank everyone who participated in the process and remain committed to administering the by-law fairly, respectfully, and in the best interests of the community.

This order will be in effect immediately. If Mr. Tweed is found on OKIB Reserve Lands, Community is advised to immediately notify the Community Safety Office at 250-306-3892
