Travel Reminder: Request Chief-Signed Border Letters in Advance

Way’ Members, please be advised:

As a reminder, all Members planning to cross the United States border are strongly encouraged to carry a letter signed by Chief Dan Wilson.

These letters are prepared by the Membership Clerk and forwarded to Chief for signature. Requests must be submitted well in advance of your intended travel date to ensure there is enough time for processing.

The Okanagan Nation Alliance issued a travel advisory on January 29, 2026, advising extreme caution for syilx Okanagan Nation Members travelling to the United States and encouraging all travellers to carry proper identification, including a valid passport, Status Card and birth certificates if you are travelling with underaged children.

While the Jay Treaty reaffirms our inherent right to cross the border, not all enforcement officers may be familiar with those rights. Members are encouraged to review current government advisories and carefully consider their travel plans.
