Shoulder Improvements Planned for Westside Road

Work to begin tomorrow, December 10th
 
The Westside Road Shoulder improvements project is planned to start tomorrow (December 10, 2025). Work will begin on road shoulder upgrades along the first 27 kilometers of Westside Road within Okanagan Indian Band Reserve No. 1 starting from Hwy 97. The project is led by the Ministry of Transportation and Transit (MoTT) and carried out by AIM Roads.
 
The project includes milling, shaping, and rebuilding the existing shoulders. These improvements will strengthen the road edge, improve drainage, and make the route safer for all travelers.
 
Motorists can expect periods of single-lane alternating traffic, with a moving work zone as crews progress through each location. Minor delays should be expected. The work is expected to take a couple of days to complete; however, timelines may shift as needed to accommodate winter maintenance activities.
 
Westside Road is an important connection for OKIB members and neighbouring communities. The upgrades will support safer and more reliable travel along this busy corridor.

OKIB has supported the project through a Band Council Resolution. Staff will continue working with MoTT and AIM Roads to make sure construction respects the land and maintains access for residents and emergency services.
