OKIB Opens Tiny Home Giveaway for Band Members
November 28th, 2025
Applications are available on the Public Works and Housing website under the Housing section: https://www.okib.ca/services/public-works-housing/
The Okanagan Indian Band has opened applications for a Tiny Home Giveaway for five remaining tiny homes originally built in 2021 in response to the White Rock Lake wildfire.
Following the wildfire, OKIB were donated seven (7) tiny homes to support members who were temporarily displaced and needed a safe place to stay during home reconstruction, two of which have already been gifted to Band Members. Those homes have since served their purpose, and OKIB will now give the remaining units to Band Members through an application process.
The tiny homes are stored at the Public Works and Housing yard, and Band Members can book an appointment to view them. Successful applicants will receive the homes in their current condition. The Band will not cover repairs, upgrades, or any associated costs. Recipients will also be responsible for transporting the home to their property, placing it, and completing any required servicing or code compliance work.
Homes will be provided as is, and recipients will be required to sign a Waiver of Liability and Release Agreement. The application form outlines the conditions for receiving a unit, including proof of land tenure, servicing readiness, and the ability to cover costs such as transportation, hydro installation, septic, and other site preparations.
Applications are open for 60 days and close on January 27. Successful applicants will be notified on January 29. All applications will be rated using the same criteria, and in the event that more than five applicants receive the same top score, a draw will be used to select the recipients.
Band Members who wish to view a home, or submit an application, can contact Public Works and Housing for further information or to book an appointment.
Please submit your application and book your viewing either in person, by phone, or via email to:
