Community Notice: Cannabis Referendum and Community Information Meetings

Okanagan Indian Band will hold a Community Vote on Cannabis on November 17, 2026.

Members will be asked to vote on two separate questions concerning whether OKIB-authorized cannabis dispensaries and cannabis production should be permitted to operate on OKIB reserve lands.

The questions

Eligible voters will be asked to vote Yes or No to each of the following questions:

1. Do you want OKIB authorized cannabis dispensaries to operate on OKIB reserve lands?

2. Do you want OKIB authorized cannabis production to operate on OKIB reserve lands?

These are separate questions. Members may vote Yes or No on each question.

Community information meetings

Before voting begins, OKIB will host community information meetings to provide Members with information about the referendum and opportunities to ask questions.

Times and locations for the community information meetings will be announced shortly.

Voting is also available by mail. Mail-in ballots must be received by the Electoral Officer no later than 8:00 p.m. on November 17, 2026 to be counted. OKIB Voting Information Notice

Eligible voters must be registered OKIB Members and at least 18 years old at the time of the referendum.

Information for Members

An information package will be provided to Members ahead of the referendum. It will include information intended to help Members understand the questions and make their own decision.

Members are encouraged to review the information, attend the community meetings and ask questions before casting their ballot.
