Fire Hydrant Replacement Project To Begin In October

Way’ Members,

Okanagan Indian Band Public Works – Water division will be completing the replacement of select fire hydrants throughout the community, with work anticipated to begin in October 2026, dependent on scheduling and contractor availability. 

At this time, crews will be assessing and replacing 30 aging hydrants. Please note that not all fire hydrants are being replaced. 

Select hydrant replacement is expected to take place in 6 Mile, Ta Ta Tlux Road and Head of the Lake Road. Notice will also be delivered to nearby residents on what to expect throughout the process.

Maintaining our OKIB fire hydrant system helps ensure OKIB’s defense against fires and guarantees that they function properly when needed.

Residents may notice materials being delivered to work areas in advance of construction. During installation, there may be temporary equipment, excavation activity, traffic impacts, or brief disruptions around individual work sites. 

For everyone’s safety, please use caution around active work areas and follow posted signage and directions from crews.
