Our Philosophy

At the snc’c’amala?tn Early Childhood Education Centre, we believe:

That only as a First Nation-controlled facility is it possible to provide a happy, safe, and stimulating environment for children that fosters their physical, intellectual, emotional, social, creative aspects, which are all necessary cultural development.

All areas are related to and depend on one child and are of equal importance in the child’s development.

In the individual worth and value of every child, and that each child is unique, with abilities that are different from those of other children.

That the group setting must meet the individual needs of each child within the context of the group, allowing them to expand and enrich their overall development, through play and discovery.

That the group care/school setting is a valuable family support system, allowing parents/guardians to pursue their own interests with peace of mind for their child’s welfare.

It is critical that the centre staff and parents/guardians work together as partners in meeting the needs of the children.

Our History

Snc’camala?tn is an Early Childhood Education and Child Care Centre built in 1997. The teamwork of a number of departments within OKIB and the support of Chief and Council made this facility possible. In 1994, a needs assessment was completed by our Band members identifying a lack of affordable, reliable childcare, and it was decided to build one facility and offer a first rate Early Childhood Education Centre for our children that is First Nations Controlled.
