Community Notice: OKIB Medical Clinic Wait times advisory and update

April 9th, 2026

Way’ Members,

Please be advised that the OKIB Primary Care Clinic is currently experiencing longer-than-usual wait times for appointments. Where patients were previously able to book within 1-2 weeks, wait times are now closer to 4-5 weeks. This change is largely due to physician staffing shortages, including one physician going on maternity leave late fall and another retiring last summer.

The OKIB Health team is doing everything they can to help mitigate the issue. The team is actively searching for physicians since October 2025 and will continue to do so. This shortage is part of a widespread issue that is affecting not just OKIB but the Interior region at large.

The OKIB Medical clinic has recently recruited a new physician to help fill the gap, Dr Tannys Bozdech who is currently working a regular shift at the clinic.

In addition to the physician, the Armstrong pharmacist, Jason Buerfeind will be returning to support prescriptions for contraceptives, minor ailments, medication reviews and prescription renewals.

Finally to help stabilize access to the clinic for existing patients, the clinic will be temporarily pausing new patient intakes for two months. The clinic will then be re-assessing new patient additions at that time.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work to resolve this issue.
