Community Update: Westside Road Shoulder Improvement Work Resumes March 2

The Westside Road Shoulder Improvements project, first announced in December 2025, will resume on Monday, March 2, 2026.

This project includes upgrades to the road shoulders in both the northbound and southbound lanes along the first 27 kilometres of Westside Road within Okanagan Indian Band Reserve No. 1. Work will begin at Highway 97. The project is led by the Ministry of Transportation and Transit and delivered by AIM Roads.

The improvements include milling, shaping, and rebuilding the existing shoulders to strengthen the road edge, improve drainage, and enhance safety for all travellers. Initial work began in December and was paused to accommodate winter maintenance activities. Crews will now return to complete the project.

Construction is anticipated to take place from March 2 to March 23, 2026. During this time, single-lane alternating traffic will be in effect, with a moving work zone as crews progress through each section. Minor delays should be expected.

Westside Road is an important transportation corridor for OKIB members and neighbouring communities. These upgrades will support safer and more reliable travel along this busy route.

OKIB supported the project through a Band Council Resolution. Staff continue to work with the Province and AIM Roads to ensure construction respects the land and maintains access for residents and emergency services. For more information, please contact:
