The Okanagan Indian Band’s Employment Training Department is responsible for administering the programs and services of the Okanagan Training and Development Council (OTDC). OTDC programs that are most frequently accessed are the Course Seat Purchase, Youth Student Development, Workplace Training, and the Job Development Wage Subsidy, programs. For in information on these programs you can go to the OTDC website at www.otdc.org or you can contact me at OKIB. Program funding is limited and therefore applications deadlines are crucial.
Applications for funding are first reviewed and discussed with the coordinator and then forwarded to the OTDC Director Karen Abramson for review prior to review by the OTDC Review committee. All applications for funding must be submitted on the Wednesday prior to being reviewed the following Monday. Each application for funding must consist of:
- OTDC Application (2 pages)
- Personal Information Exchange Form
- Cover Letter outlining funding request (client background, objectives, support mechanisms, long term plans etc.)
- Complete Course Outline
- Costs
- Start and end dates
- Locations
- Institute (accredited)
All applications for CSP funding are first reviewed discussed with the employment training coordinator to ensure all issues have been investigated and all eligibility requirements, both program and clientele, have been met. It is also at this stage that the applicant may be required to research the chosen career field to ensure they are well aware of all working conditions, wages, employment opportunities etc. As this type of funding is limited and “one time only” funding it is imperative that the applicant is completely aware of and sure of the chosen career decision.
The Employment Training Department can also provide Employment Assistant Services (EAS) such as Job Search, Resume Writing, Labor Market Information, Referrals, etc.
