The Fisheries and Watershed Technician is responsible for the coordination of fisheries and other watershed-related activities for the Okanagan Indian Band within the northern portion of the Okanagan Nation territory. His major responsibilities are to plan, develop, supervise and monitor fisheries and watershed-related projects, to participate in watershed roundtables, collaborate with staff and community members who have fisheries or cultural knowledge and to incorporate their knowledge into program activities. He is also responsible for forming working relationships with all fisheries and aquatic resource stakeholders in the North Okanagan and other areas of the Okanagan Nation territory.

Provides research and GIS mapping support to projects that may include: Archaeology; Cultural-Heritage; Forestry; Fisheries; Wildlife; and internal department initiatives such as 911 mapping updates, services infrastructure mapping, etc.

Develops maps on an as-directed basis for Chief & Council for Title and Rights initiatives, Specific Claims, Territorial Stewardship, and Legal Counsel.

Actively participates in oral interviews, archival research, literature reviews, and ground-truthing with Cultural Advisors.

Assists in Archaeological fieldwork as required, including: AOA; AIA; PFR; and Ethnobotanical reports.

Works directly with the Unit Head and project level staff on monthly work plans and reporting.
