Responsibilities
The Lands Department oversees the Department of Indian
and Northern Affairs Canada mandate regarding lands on Okanagan
Reserve lands. Lands follows the guidelines of the Land Management
Manual of INAC to deal with various land matters involving
Reserve lands. The Lands Department also works with the Chief
and Council on affairs affecting Okanagan Reserve lands. The Lands Department is aware of the Band Specific
Land claims, but is not directly involved as the Band Council
is working with Legal counsel and researchers on these matters.
The Lands Department deals with Reserve lands only and not
Band owned lands. Band owned lands are under monitored by
the Finance Assistant and the Band Manager.
Range Use Policy
**Use of all Band Range Lands.**
Attention to all Band members.
- The Okanagan Indian Band Chief and Council
hereby advises the Range Management Process currently in
effect for all Range land requires all livestock to be removed
from all Range land by November 15 of each year.
- The Range Management Process requires all
livestock to remain off the Range until April 15 of each
year.
- The Chief and Council, the Range Users and
any stock owners are to monitor this process and each others
activities regarding the use of the Range land.
- The removal of all livestock from the Range
lands is imperative to the continued productivity of the
range to produce a natural grass range for the livestock.
- The Chief and Council expect All Range Users
to abide by the above stated dates for the Range Management
process time frame.
