Director of Operations, Lands and Housing

The position of Director of Operations, Lands and Housing Division is responsible for the management, operation and maintenance of the Okanagan Band Infrastructure System, Band Buildings, and Band physical assets, as well as the Band Housing Program and Lands Department.
Major responsibilities but not limited to the position are as follows:
• The administration of public works and housing policies and procedures
• Accessing capital funding as directed
• Budget planning and preparation
• Operation and maintenance of the Band infrastructure
• Administration of the Housing Subsidy Program
• Supervision of Public Works and Housing staff, including full time, part time, and term positions

 
Housing Officer

The Housing Officer is responsible to receive applications for rental housing, new housing construction subsidies, rent collection, management of the housing portfolio and renovations. The Housing Officer is the contact person for tenants in Band Social Housing units regarding rent payment and arrears payment issues.

 
Lands Supervisor

As Supervisor of the Lands Department I oversee the Land Management program as directed by Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AAND) for Okanagan Reserve lands. Our office also deals with Band member requests for information on leasing land on Reserve. But our office does not negotiate or prepare lease documents. We work on a daily basis with other Band office Departments such as Public Works, Finance, Housing, Natural Resources, Eagle Rock Aggregates and Membership on various matters. Also we work with various levels of the Provincial Government and Federal Agencies on topics concerning Okanagan Reserve lands. The following is a list of outside agencies our office is in contact with:

Construction Supervisor
Vacant

Responsible for managing Renovations, Social Housing construction and all other capital projects. Also works with the Housing Officer on applications for renovation to ensure the project meets the requirements of the Band, AAND and CMHC and meets the needs of the applicant and meets funding requirements. Works with the homeowners to coordinate contractors and facilitate inspections as required. Responsible for the maintenance of all Social Housing units, Administration buildings, Parks, Roads, Water systems and any other Band assets. Is also the contact person if something requires repairs or maintenance, and works with maintenance coordinator to coordinate all maintenance staff in all their duties.

 
Operations, Lands and Housing Receptionist

The receptionist is mainly responsible for greeting the public – whether on the phone or in person, and to direct the call or take a message. Other responsibilities include writing up the purchase orders, payment vouchers, invoicing, and delivery of the mail to the band office every day. The duties also include booking of Head of the Lake hall, Komasket, Pebble Park, etc. She will be happy to send/give you any applications/ forms {eg: housing policy} that are needed. The receptionist also works with all staff in the building to assist in any way possible.

 
Water Maintenance Operator
Roger Lewis

The Water Maintenance Operator is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all band operated water systems. He flushes the fire hydrants, sanitizes the reservoirs and works with Health Canada to ensure potable water. The Water Maintenance Opearator is the supervisor for the grounds & building maintenance crew, and is our main Backhoe operator.

 
Custodian Supervisor
Gladys Marchand

Gladys supervises Delbert Joe, Sn-ca’ca’mala?-tn Custodian, and Shawn Louis on-call Custodian. Gladys is responsible for the janitor/custodial duties involved in all the Band administration buildings.

Shawn's custodial duties include the Head of the Lake Hall, and others as requested by his supervisor.

Data Entry Clerk
Martha Poley

The Data Entry Clerk's job is to manage the work order system and to keep track of all expenditures related to any of the band buildings, departments, or capital projects. Also tracks the expenditures for the housing department, ie: renovations, maintenance, etc. Martha also helps out with reception duties when required.

 
Groundskeeper
Tim Jack

Tim is the Okanagan Indian Band’s Groundskeeper. Tim is in charge of keeping those lawns looking good in the summer and the walkways free of ice in the winter. He is the Crew Boss for the “on call” staff. All of whom assist with building, and road maintenance. Tim is also the Assistant to Roger Lewis with the Water Maintenance Program, and will begin training this spring, for water maintenance programs.

 
Maintenance Crew
HR Wilson

Assist with maintenance projects within the community, and seasonal duties as required, they assist with the lawn maintenance etc.
